Trick #1.
I studied and learned English and French at the same time more than a decade ago. I thought I was going to have a hard time keeping the languages straight since I had a two-hour English class followed by a two-hour French class. Indeed, I was right. Since the curricula ran parallel in both classes, I had a hard time remembering the words "chien" and "chat" in French. Well, I created my own tiny pnemonic device -- you might find these explanations a little ridiculous, but remember that they are your silly tiny secrets, unless you want to share them. The "chien" (a dog) will always keep its N for boNe, but the "chat" (a cat) will always eat the H, which I need to spell fisH. Guess what? I never had any problems trying to remember those two words.
For further information, I suggest you visit the teachers.net web site, which I have found to be very useful not only for teachers, but also for students.
